Our Pastor

Rev. Grant P. Tapken serves as pastor of St. John’s and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Parish in Fairbank and Jesup, Iowa. In May 2025, he receive his call from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana to pastor St. John’s and Grace. On June 23, 2025, he was ordained into the Office of Holy Ministry of Word and Sacrament and installed as our Pastor. He can be reached via email at Pastortapken@gmail.com or by calling 319-215-2836.
Pastor Tapken is a native of Waverly, Iowa. He studied at the University of Iowa, earning bachelor’s degrees in Religious Studies and Classics. He then attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he received his Master of Divinity. Tapken completed his vicarage year at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Highland, Indiana. Pastor holds a deep love for the Word of God and the Lord’s Holy Sacraments, and hopes that is seen in his preaching and in the liturgy.
Pastor is married to his wife, Sarah, and they have one son. Tapken enjoys spending time on the family farm in Plainfield, as well as model tractors, trains, the outdoors, and of course, Lutheran theology.
