Friends in Christ,
As was shared in the announcements this week, we’ve received some communications about potentially adding a year to this cycle’s district and synod conventions. Normally, our church body meets as both districts and synod every three years. Because of COVID, we are considering adding another year to this cycle to allow districts to meet through 2022, and then host synod convention in 2023 (each convention being pushed back a year). This means that elected officers would continue to serve until the next convention.
Synod by-laws state that such a change must be approved by the congregations of the synod. Soon, information will be sent out about an electronic vote. In order for the vote to be valid, 25% of congregations need to participate. In order to pass, it must reach 51% of the vote.
Please take some time to reason the files below and share your opinion with the elders and church council. We expect that both our congregations will meet and come to a decision soon. The vote is scheduled to happen in the first half of January.
